Episodes
A long-duration powerful fall storm impacted much of west and north central Upper Michigan from the 16th through the 18th with damaging winds, heavy wet snow, and some lakeshore erosion and flooding near Lake Superior. The storm and its impacts attracted national and regional media attention with the NWS Marquette staff giving numerous phone and video interviews leading up to and during the storm.
A potent low pressure system lifting north through Ontario brought a strong low-level jet max across Upper Michigan resulting in widespread damaging winds and sporadic power outages over much of west and central Upper Michigan on the 9th. The strong winds and resulting downed power lines and relatively dry antecedent conditions also initiated several small wildfires across the area.
A warm front lifting northward from a Central Plains low brought widespread freezing rain and some sleet to portions of west and central Upper Mi from late evening on the 29th into the morning of the 30th. The ice accumulation from the freezing rain caused treacherous travel conditions, closed schools and knocked out power at some locations.
Warmer, moist air moving across a shallow layer of cold air at the surface produced fairly widespread freezing rain for portions of west and central Upper Michigan from the 22nd into the 23rd. The freezing rain resulted in treacherous and icy road conditions, tree and power line damage and power outages.
A strong winter storm brought moderate to heavy snow and considerable blowing snow to portions of west and north central Upper Michigan from the 18th into the 19th. The storm also packing northwest wind gusts over 60 mph brought blizzard conditions and power outages to Alger County during the morning of the 19th.
