North Vernon Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Thunderstorm downburst winds caused damage along Base Road from County Road 575 North to County Road 850 North, and to the northeast from that area. Several large trees were uprooted while winds downed power lines, broke off power poles, and bent flagpoles to the ground. Residences were impacted, as well as a plant farm where winds leveled a greenhouse and ripped plastic off of 2 others.
The emergency manager reports that ice accumulation from the recent storm system resulted in approximately 2900 power outages. EMS reported only a few crashes with no life threatening injuries. The 911 Center reported many trees downed from the weight of accumulated ice. It is estimated that at least a quarter of an inch of ice accumulation occurred.
A cinderblock wall of a handball court was reported down in nearby Columbus due to high, non-thunderstorm damaging wind gusts. At least 1000 power outages were reported from across county.
Approximately one quarter inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain and sleet was received from this winter storm. Scattered power outages were also noted and less than one inch of snow fell.

Thunderstorms moved across west central and southeastern parts of the Indianapolis CWA with 1 hail report at Montezuma and reports of power lines down in Cayuga. Near 4 inches of rain fell across a large part of Jennings county causing widespread flash flooding including reports of people rescued in cars.
