Estimated eighty mph winds downed several miles of power poles with some falling onto and blocking the road.
Damaging thunderstorm winds downed six power poles between Sully Buttes and Onida knocking power out to over 800 homes in and around Onida.
Damaging winds took part of the roof off the bank in Onida, knocked out the power to the city, and downed many trees in and around town.
Winds of 90 mph sheared off tens of power poles west of Onida leaving many people without power. The high winds also damaged pole buildings and granaries and overturned several campers at a lake.

Derecho Cuts Through South Dakota and Iowa, Some Damage Reported
The National Weather Service on Tuesday classified a storm that hit South Dakota, Iowa and southern Minnesota Tuesday evening as a derecho. South Dakota weather stations reported winds reached as high as 99 mph around Howard, South Dakota, northwest of Sioux Falls. Winds across parts of Iowa hit 80 mph, though the storm weakened as it reached the eastern edge of Iowa.
