A tornado touched down about three miles northwest of Hermosa and tracked northeastward for about 12 minutes, dissipating about six miles northeast of Hermosa. Numerous pine trees were snapped along Murphy Road where the tornado initially formed. Several power poles were snapped where it crossed Highway 79. Several homes were badly damaged and many outbuildings were destroyed as the tornado passed through the Spring Creek Acres subdivision.

A long-lived supercell thunderstorm took a similar track to a storm the previous day and caused considerable damage along its track from southern Butte County to southern Meade County, northeastern Pennington County, and Haakon County. The Belle Fourche and Philip areas saw the most significant damage again. Hail near softball size and wind gusts over 80 mph damaged property, trees, crops, and caused widespread power outages.

The storm produced large hail and wind gusts over 80 mph along its path. Damage was reported from the Belle Fourche to Philip areas. Property damage, downed trees and power lines were reported, including over 100 power poles downed in northeastern Pennington County. Power outages were widespread and lasted several days in these areas.
A long duration derecho tracked northeastward from Wyoming to the Black Hills area and across northwestern South Dakota. Wind gusts as high as 90 mph were reported across the area. Some trees and power poles were downed, along with mostly minor property damage.

A powerful storm system slowly moved from the Four Corners region northeastward through the Plains, leading to a prolonged period of precipitation across western South Dakota May 20-22. This three day period was among the coldest, wettest, and snowiest on record for late May, with several temperature and precipitation records set. Runoff from the rain and melting snow led to flooding of creeks, rivers, low-lying areas, and some roads across western and south central South Dakota.
