Frankenmuth firefighters had to block a stretch of Dehmel St because of a fallen tree and downed power lines.

A tree brought down power lines as it fell onto a car at Ash and Hermansau in the City of Saginaw. Although the young woman driving the vehicle was frightened, she remained in her vehicle until Utility crews cleared the live power lines. She did not sustain any injuries.

A tornado caused damage along Trinklein, Stroebel, Hart, Miller, and Weigel roads in James Township. Damage was also reported along Center Road near Camelot Place Apartments in Saginaw Township.A National Weather Service storm survey determined winds reached up to 90 mph. Numerous trees and power lines were down.

An estimated 50-foot tall maple tree broke a few feet above the ground and smashed into the windshield area of a vehicle, pinning the driver for more than an hour. Fallen trees or tree branches closed 27 streets in Saginaw, while another five were closed due to downed power lines.

Strong low pressure tracking across northern Michigan dragged a powerful cold front through southeast Michigan during the morning hours of March 6th. Wind gusts of 45-55 mph were common behind the front, with the highest wind gusts of 60+ mph reported in Tri-Cities region and Huron county. Officially, MBS (Saginaw/Tri-Cities airport) reported a 67 mph gust as the front passed through.

A quarter inch of ice accumulated in the Tri-Cities region, followed by 1 to 2 inches of snow. The ice and strong easterly winds of 30 mph or greater lead to tree damage and downed trees, with power outages occurring over Midland and Bay Counties.

Low pressure (985 MB) tracking through Detroit lead to strong northeast winds gusting to 60 mph in and around Saginaw Bay. Trees and large branches were brought down across the northern Thumb and Tri-Cities regions, leading to power outages. One tree branch landed on a woman and 3 year old, causing minor injuries.

A significant ice storm hit the Tri Cities as warm air aloft surged north ahead of a warm front. The front made it as far north as Flint before stalling out. North of the front, surface temperatures remained below freezing. Three rounds of thunder freezing rain, some of which had hail up to 1/2 inch in diameter, pelted the Tri Cities on the afternoon of Thursday February 16. The ice began to accumulate right around noon and continued all afternoon and evening. The first round of thunderstorms occurred just prior to 1500 EST, followed by another round the following hour. The 3rd and final round struck between 1900 and 2000 EST and hit the hardest. The ASOS at MBS recorded an amazing 91 hundredths of an inch of precipitation during the entire duration of the frozen precip. Scores of trees and power lines were brought down under the weight of the ice. The heaviest icing occurred across Midland and Bay counties where widespread ice accumulations 1/2 to 1 inch caused significant damage which resulted in power outages for much of the region. The coldest air of the season settled into the area on the 17th. The thermometer plummeted to 0 degrees by sunrise on the 18th. Frigid temperatures, well below normal, continued through the weekend. Many remained without power for days. In response, Red Cross and public schools in the area opened temporary warming shelters to accommodate those without power. Insurance companies estimated the total damage across the three County region at $1M.

For the 2nd consecutive Sunday, a strong November low pressure system brought High winds to the area. The storm's associated cold front passed through the region during the morning, leading to wind gusts out of the west estimated at 60 mph across Midland and Saginaw Counties. Downed trees left approximately 4,000 homes without power in Midland. The Midland Fire Department made 23 wind-related runs on Sunday, including to a tree in the road at 1022 EST and to several trees down on power lines between noon and 1600 EST. One family was forced into an area shelter when a tree crashed into their home. Trained spotters also reported several trees came down around 1700 EST in the City of St. Charles in Saginaw County. There were no reported injuries with this event.

Thunderstorms developed out ahead of a rapidly deepening surface low. A small bow echo took down trees and power lines across Saginaw County. This storm was responsible for cutting power to 6700 homes. Pea sized hail also accompanied this storm, blanketing the ground so thick in Merrill that it looked like snow.

A west to east orientated frontal boundary lifted north through southeast Michigan during the afternoon hours of the 22nd. Multiple weak tornadoes occurred across the Tri-Cities and Thumb region. No injuries were reported with mainly minor damage. Consumers Energy reported that more than 235,000 customers were without power as a result of the May 21st and 22nd storms, the 10th highest total in Consumers Energy history. DTE Energy had 210,000 customers without power over the weekend.

Low pressure in the plains pushed a warm front north across the Ohio Valley. Precipitation broke out north of the warm front, in the form of a wintry mix. Near Saginaw Bay, much of this mix took the form of freezing rain. Huron County was the exception, seeing 5 inches of snow mix in with a quarter inch of ice. In general, minimal glaze formed on ground surfaces. Instead, ice accumulations were generally confined to power lines, tree branches, and overpasses. The ice accumulations, about a quarter to a half inch, did not persist long, as temperatures warmed and changed the freezing rain to rain. As a result, the ice caused little damage.

A low pressure system moved northeast from the mid Mississippi Valley on the night of the 7th, reaching northern Ohio by daybreak on the 8th. Moisture surged north ahead of the low, producing precipitation across southern lower Michigan. In the Saginaw Valley and Thumb areas, most of this fell as snow. Some lake effect snow also fell late at night, as the wind became northeast off of Lake Huron. The highest snowfall amounts - 6 inches - fell in Oil City and St Charles, as well as in Fairgrove Township in Tuscola County. The snow was very wet and heavy, and combined with 30 mph winds, was enough to cause some power lines in the area to go down. Even further south, with snowfall amounts of only a couple of inches, some power lines gave way.
