Blizzard conditions began across Logan County by 1 pm CST on April 4, 2009. Snowfall amounts ranged from 5 to 9 inches. Strong north winds of 30 to 50 mph caused significant blowing and drifting snow with reduced visibility to below a quarter mile during the late afternoon and evening hours. Snow drifts up to 6 feet high caused road closures and winds caused power outages across much of the county.
Ice accumulations of a quarter to half inch caused broken tree branches and snapped power lines. A CO-OP observer 5 miles west of Stapleton reported 8 to 10 inch diameter tree limbs down and a prolonged power outage. Snowfall amounts of 6 to 8 inches followed.
