Stuttgart Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Power poles were blown down just to the southwest of Stinking Bay.
Trees and powerlines were down across Highway 169 due to the weight of freezing rain accumulation.
A large pole barn was completely destroyed and electrical transmission line towers were knocked down. The likely cause of damage that initiated the collapse of the electrical transmission line towers was a large lofted shipping container that collided with the base of one of the towers. Other damage included downed smaller power poles and minor roof damage to a home.
Several powerlines and power poles were down south of Stuttgart.
Powerlines and power poles were downed by thunderstorm winds. There was also a tornado warning in effect at the time, but they needed to wait for the water to recede and road conditions to improve to investigate if there was any additional damage. There was no damage to any structures.
Episodes
The month started with seasonal heat on the 5th, and afternoon temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s. High soil moisture levels contributed to elevated humidity, and this created heat index values from the mid 90s to around 105 degrees. There was some relief coming from the north. Decaying thunderstorms in Missouri sent cool outflow toward Arkansas, and this triggered new storms north of Little Rock (Pulaski County).||Once storms materialized across the north, they were severe in some cases. Trees and/or power lines were downed at Ash Flat (Sharp County) and five miles northeast of Pocahontas (Randolph County). Flash flooding was reported along Highway 115 just north of Pocahontas (Randolph County). Lightning sparked two house fires in Maynard (Randolph County).||Some locations in the northern half of the state received one to two inches of rain. Eight miles southwest of Hardy (Sharp County) 1.82 inches fell, 1.81 inches a few miles south of Bruno (Marion County), 1.57 inches about five miles northeast of Scranton (Logan County), and 1.55 inches at Mountain View (Stone County). These totals occurred in a twenty four hour period ending at 700 am CDT on the 6th.
A cluster of fast-moving severe thunderstorms produced straight-line wind gusts up to 80 mph and caused extensive damage in Arkansas County. Damage was first noted about 4 miles southwest of Lodge Corner where power lines were downed. Farther east, a number of trees were knocked down, with one tree on a parsonage. Tin was removed from a roof about 2 miles east of Bayou Meto. About 4 miles south of DeWitt, a storage shed was tipped over and a hay barn was destroyed. A little farther east, several power poles were blown down roughly 4 miles northwest of Deluce. In Deluce, a large tree fell on the roof of a building, with windows blown out of several buildings. Also, a shed collapsed on a combine and power poles and lines were downed.
Thunderstorm winds caused power poles to lean near Lodges Corner.
