Power Outage in Waxahachie, TX

Broadcast media reported a barn destroyed, trees uprooted, and power lines down off of FM 876 south of Waxahachie, TX.

Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were near or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit almost all week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures in the single digits. The maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 10 to -15 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power. The State listed 2 fatalities in Ellis County due to the winter storm but no additional information could be obtained.

Amateur radio reported power poles snapped near Interstate 45 just north of the city of Ennis, TX.

Emergency management reported that trees and power lines were knocked down throughout the county.

Emergency management reported debris and power poles in the road on FM 664 near South Westmoreland in Ovilla, TX.

A National Weather Service storm survey crew found evidence of a tornado which produced EF-0 damage. The tornado path, which was along Plainview Road, caused damage to trees and a few power poles and power lines.

Accumulations of sleet and ice resulted in tree and power line damage in Ellis County. The COOP Observer in Maypearl reported 1.25 of ice and sleet. On December 8th, a tree limb fell on power lines in the 500 block of North Rogers Street in Waxahachie, which sent a charge into a nearby home that started a fire in the kitchen.

Several trees and powerlines were blown down due to high winds near the 2000 block of Old Maypearl Rd.

Thunderstorm winds were estimated to be near 60 MPH. Power outages were also reported.

A 230 acre blaze burned from approximately Waxahachie in Ellis County to DeSoto in Dallas County. In Ellis County, one home was burned in Glenn Heights, five cars were destroyed, and 12 other homes were damaged. Most of the damaged homes were also in Glenn Heights or in Red Oak. Four power poles were also burned. Two fire fighters were treated for heat exhaustion while battling the blaze.

Peak winds of 60 mph were estimated in Waxahachie. Power lines and a few trees were knocked down.

Icy conditions caused power outages in Ovilla.

Wind speeds were between 20 to 30 MPH sustained and gusted between 50 and 60 MPH for hours. A huge cloud of dust overspread the county, causing visibilities to fall dramatically. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down. One carport was blown away.

Power lines were forced down as ice accumulated, causing power outages on Sunday.

Strong winds gusting to over 30 MPH caused a large tree limb to fall on and damage a transformer, knocking out power to dozens of homes, businesses, schools, and traffic lights in Ennis.
