Power Outage in Weatherford, TX

Thunderstorm winds caused damage in an area between Weatherford and Springtown around the area of Old Springtown Road, Katie Ranch Road, Friendship Road and Whipoorwill Trail. A metal barn was damaged and metal panels were removed from the barn. Elsewhere, power lines and power poles were knocked down, trees were damaged, and other small barns appeared to have been damaged.

Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were near or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit almost all week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures between 0 to -4 degrees Fahrenheit, and the maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the lower teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 0 to -20 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power.

Amateur radio reported a power line blown down near the intersection of Hwy 171 and Hwy 51 south of the city of Weatherford, TX.

Power outages from ice were reported across parts of Parker, Wise and Tarrant Counties.

A public report indicated power poles broken approximately 2 miles south-southeast of the city of Weatherford, TX.

Numerous trees were knocked down or uprooted approximately 5 miles southwest of Weatherford by severe thunderstorm winds. In addition, some power poles were knocked down and at least one carport was damaged.

Up to 4 of ice and sleet accumulated in Parker County. Most of the accumulations were due to sleet and the heaviest amounts fell in the northwestern and southeastern portions of the county. Several traffic accidents occurred on the icy streets and hundreds of tree branches broke due to the weight of the ice. Interstate 20 was impassable at times and many motorists were stranded on the highway. TX 180 between Weatherford and Mineral Wells was also closed. Several power lines also snapped due to the weight of the ice. A male died when his ATV lost control and flipped on an icy road.

Estimated winds of 60 mph were reported in Weatherford. Some power outages occurred in the city.

Widespread damage was caused in Brock. Brock Middle School sustained roof damage to its gymanisum and two churches across the street were damaged. The community center also sustained roof damage. Widespread tree damage was observed in the community; most noteable a 6 foot diameter tree that was 58 feet tall was uprooted in front of a church. A number of outbuildings sustained roof damage on Young Bend Road. The storm also knocked out power.

A barn was damaged and power lines were down in the Adell/Whitt area.

A 200 acre wildfire near Lake Mineral Wells State Park consumed three vacant cabins and one home. Another 100 acre fire moving through several Hudson Oaks subdivisions claimed four structures. One person was injured while attempting to extinguish the flames. The fire likely was started by arcing power lines.

At one residence a sunroom was blown off of a back porch, and a power pole fell across the roof of the house.

A storm spotter reported a brief touchdown about six to seven miles north of Aledo on Farmer Road. The tornado was on the ground for about a minute as it moved due east. Power flashes were reported in association with the tornado.

Power outages were reported from north Weatherford along Highway 51 to Old Springtown Road as lines were downed due to icing.

Strong winds blew down numerous trees and tree limbs, as well as power lines around the county. A tree fell on a house on the 900 block of West Spring Street, tearing a four-foot hole in the roof and damaging the air conditioning and heating units.

Winds associated with evaporation along the edges of dissipating thunderstorms caused widespread damage across Tarrant and Parker Counties. In Tarrant County, roofs were blown off of businesses and homes. A small Cessna was flipped over and two larger jets (a 737 and a DC-9) were damaged when they were pushed into each other at Meacham Airport. Numerous trees, power lines, transformers and radio towers were knocked down. Power was knocked out to over 30,000 people in the area. In Arlington, a 70-foot tall cottonwood tree crashed into a bedroom roof. In Parker County, a roof was blown off of a house in Aledo and numerous trees and fences were blown down across the county.
