Power Outage in Woodbury, TN

A weather station northeast of Woodbury measured several hours of sustained wind speeds greater than 40 mph with a peak sustained wind speed of 50 mph. These severe winds led to several reports of downed trees and powerlines across the Cannon County. Damages are estimated.

Precipitation totals across Cannon County ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 of combined ice and sleet. A trained spotter in Woodbury measured 0.25 of ice with an unknown amount of sleet. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down across the county, and many roads and schools were closed.

The tornado touchdown one half mile north of the intersection of Murfreesboro Road and Locke Creek Road. The tornado then traveled northeast. The tornado damage path was 0.8 miles long and 75 yards wide. The start of the damage was found at the top of the ridge off of Locke Creek Road. Numerous trees were uprooted and twisted. One power pole was snapped. Based on the damage found, winds were estimated at 70 mph which corresponds to an EF-0 Tornado.

Strong thunderstorm winds damaged numerous barns, sheds and outbuildings. Many trees and power lines were down around the county. 800 to1000 homes in Cannon county sustained damage, especially in the eastern part of the county. One house and one mobile home was declared a total loss. 4 or 5 homes were heavily damaged in the Center Hill and Short Mountain community.
