Ackerman Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
A line of severe thunderstorms produced wind damage in and near the Ackerman area. A large tin shed in town was destroyed, and trees were blown down a few miles northeast of town including several that blocked both lanes of MS Highway 12 near the Oktibbeha County line. Another tree fell onto power lines along MS Highway 15.
Heavy sleet accumulated to around 0.5 inches in the county before a transition to freezing rain occurred. Accumulations of around 0.50 inches of ice through the evening resulted in in widespread downed and broken trees, limbs, and power lines. The damage resulted in extensive power outages across the county and made roads slick to travel on.
A weak EF1 tornado touched down near Weir-Highpoint Road on the east side of Weir. The tornado moved northeast, toppling multiple trees along Henson Road. The tornado also took down a power line before weakening and lifting near Phillips-Gammill Road, with minor tree damage. Maximum winds were 87 mph. Total path length was 3.95 miles.
Power lines and three poles were blown down on Highway 12.
