Power Outage in Belleville, KS

Tree limbs three inches in diameter broken, power poles broken.

Delayed report of power lines down with a few transformers damaged. At least one tree was uprooted with several large broken tree limbs across the town. Time was estimated via radar.

There were shredded trees throughout Munden. The town also lost power.

A tree of unknown diameter was blown onto 25th street blocking the roadway. The tree also knocked down a powerline.

A shed was blown over near the begnning of the damage path, and a barn collapsed onto a tractor near the end. Trees were reported down along the path, and a home on Nickel Road has it's roof partially torn off. The same home had it's carport destroyed. Tree limbs were reported down across Belleville. A house near the intersection of N and 24th Streets had a large limb fall onto a nearby power line and porch. A wall on the south side of the Belleville Car Wash was also blown down by the strong winds. Wind damage continued along a swath from 6 miles south of Belleville to Hanover in Washington County. Near Hanover, minor damage was reported across the town. A tree fell onto the roof of a home on the west side of the home, causing damage to a home.

One half of an inch to three quarters of an inch of ice was reported to have accumulated on surfaces across the county. Primary problems in both towns and rural areas were downed trees, limbs, and power lines���especially limbs that fell onto power lines. Several homes in Belleville were left without power, and residents of both Scandia and Norway also reported power outages.

A brief tornado occurred in Belleville Kansas around 815pm CDT. Only minor tree limb damage was reported by EM along with power lines that were brought down by tree limbs. Radar and assessment of near storm environmental parameters suggest that this could have been a brief weak tornado.

A supercell that tracked across much of north central Kansas spawned a long-lived tornado that tracked from Jewell County, KS (Hastings CWA) into Republic County, KS (Topeka CWA) into Thayer County, NE (Hastings CWA) and finally into Jefferson County, NE (Omaha CWA) before dissipating. The bulk of the damage that occurred in Republic County happened within a few minutes of crossing the county line. Damage there was rated EF-3. Six residences were reported to have been significantly damaged. A few residents of these homes needed to be rescued, as they were trapped by debris. Other damage occurred to trees, power lines, and farm related buildings.
