Power Outage in Buena Vista, GA

Emergency manager reported two trees with powerlines down along Lovic Davis Rd; one near the intersection with Indian Bend Dr and the other near the intersection with Garrett Rd.

A National Weather Service survey consisting of an analysis of measured wind data, along with reports from Emergency Managers and various other local, state and federal officials, found that tropical storm conditions occurred in the county. There were numerous reports of trees and power lines blown down and some damage to structures. Wind speeds were estimated between 45 and 55 mph.

The media reported numerous trees and power lines blown down across the county. Many customers were without electricity for varying periods of time. Radar estimated between 2 and 4 inches of rain fell across the county with 3.32 inches of rain measured in Buena Vista. No injuries were reported.

The Marion County Emergency Manager reported tress and power lines blown down on Dr. Deryl Hart Road northeast of Buena Vista.

Ham radio operators reported that trees and power lines were down near Highway 240 and Buck Creek Road.

The Middle Flint Regional 911 Center reported that several trees and power lines were blown down along Highway 26 just went of Buena Vista. Another tree was down across Pineville Road.

A damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City, Georgia confirmed that yet an eighth tornado had touched down within the Peachtree City, Georgia county warning area, this time in northern Troup county. An EF0 tornado touched down approximately three miles west of Hillcrest in northern Troup county and then tracked 17 miles on a northeastward track across extreme southeast Heard and into southwest Coweta counties before lifting. The tornado strengthened to an EF2 rating through much of Heard and again toward the end of the path in Coweta county. Within Troup county, the path length was about 6.5 miles. The maximum path width was 100 yards with maximum winds estimated to be 90 mph. The tornado tracked mostly through a Georiga Department of Natural Resources Wildlife area, and as such damage within northern Troup county from this tornado was confined mainly to thousands of downed trees, as well as some power lines. Several homes and business sustained minor to moderate damage from downed trees on the structures, especially within the city of Buena Vista. Over 12 roads were closed as a result of downed trees and power lines.

The tornado entered Marion county about three miles northwest of Union, where Georgia Highway 137 touches the Chattahoochee county line. The tornado then continued on an east-northeastward track across the county exiting into Taylor county across Georgia Highway 127/240C, about one mile south of Mauk. The tornado passed about fives miles north of the county seat, Buena Vista, crossing Georgia Highway 41 at that point. The tornado had a estimated tornado path length was approximately 18 miles with a maximum path width of 100 yards. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down along the spotty damage path of the tornado, including several large trees which were uprooted at the Johnson Cemetery. The most significant damage occurred to a manufactured home, which was heavily damaged, in the northeast part of the county near Five Points on Johnson Cemetery Road, just off Georgia Highway 240, or about two miles south of Mauk. The home was destroyed and a large barn behind the home suffered significant damage as well. The adjacent mobile home also sustained some damage. No injuries were reported within the county.
