Power Outage in Burlington, KS

EM estimated flat ice accumulation around one quarter inch along with sleet accumulation around one inch. No damage or wide spread power outages were reported.

Shingles were blown off a roof in Burlington. Some powerlines were reported down on the southwest side of town as well.

Primarily rain fell during the evening hours of the 27th, but gradually transitioned to a mix of freezing rain and sleet, then eventually snow through the night. Half an inch of ice was reported to have accumulated in the southern part of the county, which one quarter of an inch was reported across much of the rest of the county. Power lines were reported down in and around Gridley, tree limbs snapped off in Burlingame as a result of the weight of the accumulated ice, and several slide-offs were reported by law enforcement along I-35.

The Bahr Storage storage unit was destroyed, and debris from the building was scattered across Hwy 75. Of note, the town's mural was painted on the east side of this now destroyed building. Several power lines were also snapped.

Approximately eight six-line powerlines snapped of a quarter of the way from the top. The powerlines were blown eastward onto the road.

One quarter to one half of an inch of ice was reported to have accumulated on surfaces across the county. Several large trees and limbs were reported down in Lebo, Waverly, and Burlington. Coffey-Lyon County Electric reported that 250 customers were without power northeast and west of Emporia. Emergency shelters were opened across the county. Ten people sought shelter in Waverly, and 5 sought shelter in Lebo where power was out to approximately 60 residents. Blacktop roads were in good shape across the county, but gravel roads were iced over but up to �� of an inch of accumulated ice. School was closed across the county because of the slippery roads.
