Carlisle Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Snowfall of 1-2 inch accumulated with blowing snow and strong wind gusts of 30-40 mph. Rapidly falling temperatures resulted in slick roads and significant travel impacts. Treacherous travel conditions were noted throughout December 23rd, a busy holiday travel day. Wind chills of -25 were observed on the morning of the 23rd. Extreme cold strained the power grid and rolling blackouts were implemented by utility companies.
County road department reported a quarter-inch of ice accumulation, 1.5 inches of sleet, and 1-2 inches of snow. No trees reported down, but there were limited power outages.
Power lines and trees came down at Carpenter Pike and US 68. Trees also came down along county roads in the western half of the county.
Public reports estimated wind gusts in the 55 to 60 mph, which resulted in some downed power lines, trees and other minor structural damage.
