Power Outage in Deridder, LA

Multiple trees and power poles are down in the area from a thunderstorm.

Several broken power poles were reported by Beauregard Electric Company in Deridder and Rospine causing numerous outages.

A couple trees were downed along parish line road and one fell onto power lines.

Freezing rain pushed into the region before sunrise on the 17th. 1 tenth to 3 tenths of an inch of ice had accumulated by the end of the event causing power outages and hazardous driving conditions.

Wind gusts to around 75 mph and heavy rainfall lead to numerous downed trees and power lines across the parish. Mostly minor flooding was encountered across the parish, however heavier rain fell in the eastern sections and totals ranged from 5 to 15 inches. Bundick Creek reached moderate flood stage.

There was a voluntary evacuation for the parish. Numerous trees power lines and power poles were blown down across the parish. Homes and businesses were damaged from fallen trees or from wind. All of the parish was without power immediately after the storm. Two indirect deaths due to heat related stress. Wind gusts ranged from 110 to 130 mph.

The tornado began in DeRidder Louisiana just north of 171 on East 1st Street where it created minor roof damage and took out several overhead doors. The winds at this time were estimated at 78 mph. As the tornado moved northeast, it strengthened near Mac Sterling Road crossing into Vernon Parish near the intersection of John Brewer and Borel Roads. Roughly 40 structures were in the path of the tornado with various degrees of damage. Two homes had exterior walls collapse with the interior remaining intact. Numerous trees and power lines were also downed. The max estimated winds while in Beauregard Parish was 152 MPH.

Seth Cole Road had a large tree|and power lines were downed. On Graybow Road, several|trees fell, some causing damage to homes and barns. The tornado ended|near Doyle Sharp Road, where several more trees were snapped or blown|down. The max estimated wind speed was 105 MPH.

A NWS employee reported several trees and power lines down from DeRidder to Singer along Highway 27. Also, a bar suffered roof damage between DeRidder and Rosepine.

The Beauregard Sheriff's office reported trees down around one mile south of DeRidder along Franklin Road. Additional trees were leaning on power lines along Highway 27 and Mall Road.

Isolated power outages were reported due to a few trees blown down across Beauregard Parish.

Beauregard Daily News newspaper reported several trees and power lines blown down across De Ridder. One building at the intersection of Wilson Street and West First Street suffered roof damage.

De Ridder CO-OP Observer reported numerous trees and power lines down three miles east of De Ridder. One house was severely damaged by fallen trees. Widespread power outages were also reported in De Ridder. Estimated wind gusts were around 60 mph.

Hurricane Gustav caused tropical storm force winds in Beauregard Parish, resulting in scattered trees and power lines downed.

Hurricane Humberto moved over extreme southwestern Beauregard Parish around 6 am. Hurricane force winds were confined to less than a 15 mile wide area. Damage was primarily trees blown down, roof damage, and power lines downed, near the Fields area. Power outages occurred to less than 5,000 customers. Most of the power was restored in 24 hours.

In a 5 mile wide swath, 7 homes were damaged from winds, a church roof was damaged by a fallen tree, several barns were damaged, and numerous trees and power lines were blown down.

Lightning struck near three businesses in DeRidder, causing power surges. At a restaurant, computers, ovens, and grills had to be replaced after a power surge went through the building. Two other businesses received minor damage, such as appliances or light fixtures not working.
