A series of powerful storms and isolated tornadoes Tuesday left destruction across parts of South Carolina and electric utilities scrambling to restore power into the night.

Electric utilities were reporting approximately just below 30,000 power failures across South Carolina after powerful rains, strong winds and thunderstorms from Tropical Storm Elsa moved across the Lowcountry.
