Thunderstorms moved across the greater Phoenix area, including the community of Fountain Hills, during the afternoon hours on July 2nd. Some of the stronger storms generated gusty and damaging outflow winds estimated to be as high as 70 mph. At 1800MST a trained spotter located about 5 miles southwest of the town of Fountain Hills reported that four power poles were blown down. The downed poles were located at the intersection of 136th Street and Shea Boulevard.
