A strong cold front swept east across the region during the evening hours of Saturday October 25th. A wave of low pressure developed along this front and lifted north during the evening, creating locally heavy rainfall across portions of eastern New York and western New England.||In addition, the tight pressure gradient between the approaching front, and strong high pressure off the New England coast, created gusty southeast to south winds across the region from Saturday afternoon into the evening, which led to some downed trees, tree limbs and power lines.

On November 28th, a strong low pressure system moved through the region, bringing heavy rains to most of the area. The heaviest rain fell over the Catskills, where over 4 inches of rain was locally estimated by radar, while the region between Southern Washington County and the Sacandaga reservoir received between 2 and 3.5 inches of rainfall. In addition, heavy rains fell over much of the Upper Mohawk Basin. What Causes Power Outages?

  • Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);

  • Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?

  • Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
  • Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life;
