Power Outage in Marksville, LA

Freezing rain pushed into the region before sunrise on the 17th. One quarter to one half an inch of ice accumulated across the parish by the end of the event. Power outages and hazardous road conditions occurred as a result of the storm.

Wind gusts to around 65 mph and heavy rainfall lead to numerous downed trees and power lines across the parish. Flooding in numerous locations was caused by 6 to 12 inches of rainfall.

Many trees and power lines were blown down, some across homes, automobiles, and businesses. the worst damage happened on the east side of the tracks, where several homes received roof damage, and several businesses had sheet metal ripped off the roofs and walls.

A short-lived tornado destroyed a mobile home, injuring 3 people. One man was thrown from the trailer towards the road in front of the house, and his 15 month old daughter was thrown 50 feet to the right of the trailer. A woman was buried in the rubble. All three suffered minor injuries. Trees and power lines were also blown down.
