Marshall Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Light to moderate freezing rain formed early morning on New Year's Day. This freezing rain quickly accreted between a quarter to three quarters inch before sunrise. Shortly after sunrise the freezing rain switched to light snow, which persisted for the bulk of the remaining day time hours. The snow did not accumulate more than 1 to 3 inches, but on top of the ice accretion created winter storm conditions. Mostly scattered power outages and vehicle accidents were the impacts, but being a holiday, road traffic was likely light.
Power poles and trees of unknown size and condition were down near Sweet Springs.
Power lines were reported down near Marshall, Missouri.
The third and final tornado from this survey formed just north of Marshall, Missouri. While the tornado was very wide, it did not damage any structures that would suggest it was stronger than EF-1. Generally it impacted trees and power lines in the rural areas of Saline County and a few farm structures. The tornado dissipated just east of Marshall, Missouri about 20 minutes after is formed.
Several large trees and power lines down along Highway 240 between Marshall and Slater. Likely caused by rear flank downdraft.
