Power Outage in Memphis, MO

A NWS storm survey team reported power poles were snapped and trees damaged. Hay bales tossed. Grain bin and old barn destroyed.

Freezing rain resulted in an ice coating of a tenth to under a quarter inch during the morning commute hours on February 17. Power outages were also reported. Damage amounts are unknown.

A trained spotter reported 2 inch diameter tree limbs down. They estimated winds to be 50 mph. The power went out at the time of the report.

Wind gusts estimated to be 70 mph produced heavy tree damage throughout Scotland County. Several outbuildings were damaged and about 30 power poles were snapped. The tree damage was mainly located between Bible Grove and Memphis. The time of this report was estimated using radar data.

Wind gusts estimated to be 60 mph blew down some tree branches about 3 miles northeast of Bible Grove, MO around 715 pm June 23. The branches fell onto some power lines and caught on fire.

Wind gusts estimated to be 65 mph blew down several tree limbs and power lines in South Gorin, MO at 710 pm July 27. A power outage was also observed. Two inches of rain fell in one hour.

Wind gusts estimated to be 60 to 70 mph blew down numerous branches in Memphis, MO at 704 pm July 27. A power outage was also observed. Over an inch of rain fell in 30 minutes.

Wind gusts were estimated to be 60 mph just west of Rutledge, MO. The power was also knocked out in the vicinity.

According to the Memphis Democrat newspaper, and NWS storm survey, a downburst hit the Lake Show-Me campgrounds about 1.5 miles southwest of Memphis. Winds were estimated at 70 mph, which hurled a camper several yards, which was destroyed. A sleeping occupant in the camper escaped unharmed. The storm also tore a bass boat off a trailer parked near the camper, and threw it into the wreckage. Another camper was rolled and came to rest on its roof against a nearby power pole. The parent thunderstorm then spawned a tornado nearby at the Scotland County Fairgrounds about a minute later.||

The tornado moved northeast at 45 mph, and was on the ground for less than a mile, with a maximum width of 210 yards. Several barns at the fairgrounds had metal roofs peeled off, and doors blown in on several quonset huts. The entry gate building from the race track pits area was totally destroyed and strewn across the grounds. A billboard was damaged, and there was also damage to fences. Several trees and power poles were snapped and numerous branches were broken off trees. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Tree struck & fell into power lines

A powerful storm system lifted from Central Iowa into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin during the day on April 9th. Strong to severe thunderstorms developed in eastern Iowa during the afternoon and moved into northwest Illinois during the evening hours. These storms produced hail as large as golf balls and damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph.

Several rounds of thunderstorms struck Eastern Iowa, far Northeast Missouri, and Nothern Illinois from mid afternoon through midnight. A wake low developed behind one line of storms and produced an extended period of wind over 50 mph across parts of Eastern Iowa and Northwest Illinois resulting in power outages and tree limbs down. In Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois, thunderstorms trained over the same area producing mainly nuisance flooding. In Henderson County Illinois, Illinois Route 94 and numerous other roads were closed due to high water.
