A vigorous Pacific trough and attendant cold front passed through Southwest Montana on the afternoon of Wednesday May 6th. Strong cold air advection and a well mixed boundary layer briefly transferred 50 to 55 kt westerly H700 winds to the surface. The greatest impacts were observed near Dillon in Beaverhead County, where visibility dropped to near zero along interstate 15 due to blowing dust and some tree and power line damage was reported.
