Power Outage in Ottawa, OH

Nearby ASOS and AWOS reported gusts of 40 to 50 mph from west and northwest through the early afternoon. These wind gusts resulted in instances of tree damage and subsequent power outages.

Light snow overspread the area on January 25th and transitioned to a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and freezing drizzle on the night of January 25th into January 26th. Little to no snow accumulation was reported, but ice accretions ranged from 0.1 to 0.2 inches. The ice accretion led to reports of some slide offs along with some instances of power outages.

Periods of freezing rain with temperatures near freezing accumulated to between 0.10 and 0.20 across the area on New Year's Day, mainly during the morning and early afternoon hours. This led to a few reports of tree limbs down and spotty power outages across the region. There were also reports of a few car accidents as roads were slick in spots.

A 72 mph wind gust was recorded east-northeast of Ottawa. Several tree limbs and power lines were reported down from strong winds across the county.

Long duration sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts 50 to 55 mph occurred across the county, resulting in trees, tree limbs and power poles suffering damage.

Freezing rain, at times mixed with sleet, accumulated up to 0.20 inches in spots on February 12th. Numerous slide-offs and minor accidents occurred across the county. Many schools and some businesses were closed on February 12th due to the icy conditions. Fallen tree branches were reported across the region, with many onto roads and power lines creating scattered power outages.

Total snow accumulations across the county generally ranged between 5 and 9 inches. Wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph, combined with the falling snow, created reduced visibilities and blowing snow. Numerous events were cancelled across the region, along with reports of slide-offs and accidents due to snow covered and slick roads. The heavy, wet, nature of the snow also led to sporadic power outages.

Strong westerly winds, with gusts between 30 and 40 mph, created deadly wind chills and significant blowing and drifting snow. Dangerous winds chills between 30 and 45 degrees below zero were common. The extremely cold temperatures and significant blowing snow kept many north-south roads impassable or restricted to single lanes. There were numerous reports of accidents and slide-offs across the region due to the slick roadways, with many businesses and schools closed each day.

A tornado that originally touched down in Putnam county briefly crossed the Putnam/Paulding county line before re-entering Putnam county where it continued to move rapidly northeast over mainly open fields until entering the town of Cloverdale where EF2 damage was observed. Extensive tree damage as well as minor to moderate structural damage was noted across the town, with several power poles down. The greatest damage occurred to a church and a brick home. Both suffered extensive damages to some of the walls and the roof (DI: FR12 DOD: 7). A nearby home lost one of its walls (DI:FR12, DOD2) with adjacent hardwood trees suffering greater damage (DI: TH DOD: 4). The tornado exited town and continued northeast for several more miles over open fields and occasional wooded areas with sporadic tree damage noted until finally lifting five miles northeast of Cloverdale. Maximum winds are estimated at 130 mph with a total two county path length of around 11 miles.

A trained spotter reported five turkey barns suffered rood damage along County Road 10. One power pole was snapped in the area with power lines down along nine pole spans.

Law enforcement officials reported numerous trees and power lines down from North Creek to Leipsic. A mobile home was overturned on the south side of North Creek, with one person suffering minor injuries.

Moderate rain overspread the region on February 26th. Surface temperatures hovered near freezing during the morning hours which allowed the rain to freeze on mainly elevated surfaces. Ice accretions near a tenth of an inch were common on trees, power lines, bridges, and overpasses. This combined with wind gusts to 30 mph aided in downing a few tree limbs. There were also reports of isolated power outages and accidents across the region.

Emergency management officials reported 13 power poles downed and snapped along State Road 65, between Roads M and O, south of Ottawa. A semi truck was blown off near the area of the power poles being snapped.

Very windy conditions were seen across the area on December 9th as a deep area of low pressure tracked into Michigan. Wind gusts between 45 and 60 mph were common during the late morning and afternoon hours. There were reports of power lines and trees down across the region due to the strong winds, which resulted in isolated power outages.

Freezing rain overspread the area early December 19th and continued through the 10:00 am. Surface temperatures rose to just above freezing by 10am and noon which changed the precipitation over to mainly drizzle and light rain showers. Ice accumulations near a quarter of an inch were reported. Icing on trees and power lines also created numerous power outages across the county, with reports of nearly 500 customers without power according to AEP.

Spotters in Ottawa and Columbus Grove reported a few trees, several tree limbs and power poles down. No damage estimates were available.

Spotters reported around three tenths of an inch of ice accumulation, as well as up to one quarter inch of sleet and a few inches of snow, causing slippery driving conditions and a few power outages.

An intense area of low pressure moving across Michigan produced sustained winds of 40 MPH with measured gusts to 60 MPH across all of Northern Indiana, Northwest Ohio and Southwest Lower Michigan from late morning through early evening. Widespread reports of trees and power lines downwere received from law enforcement across the region.

Winds gusted to 65 MPH behind a strong cold front that moved across the region during the late afternoon and evening. Numerous power outages occurred with trees and power lines down.

An unusually strong cold front moved through the region during the daylight hours of the 9th. A strong pressure gradient existed with the front as 3 hour pressure falls of 4 millibars ahead of the front combined with 3 hour pressure rises of 11 millibars. Winds just above the surface ranged from 70 to 80 mph. The combination of these 2 factors was tapped by a narrow line of showers immediately ahead of the cold front. Widespread reports of trees, tree limbs and power lines being blown down were received as surface winds of 50 to 70 mph were experienced by many areas. In the town of Ottawa, a cinder block wall was blown down at a canning company and the roof was blown off a trailer. A large pine tree was also blown down.
