Power Outage in Plainfield, IN

Numerous trees and powerlines downed by thunderstorm wind gusts in Plainfield and across the county. Over 3000 power outages caused by the storm.

Numerous reports of downed trees and power lines due to gradient winds on the leading edge of light rain. Most concentrated damage was in an area from Avon to Brownsburg to Clermont.

A 48 mph wind gust was reported by an automated surface observations system in Avon. Widespread power outages across the county suggests that pockets of higher wind gusts occurred with over 1500 outages due to the strong gradient winds. Several trees knocked down by gradient winds in Avon Town Park behind the town hall.

A tree and power lines were blown down from thunderstorm winds at County Road 200 South and Dan Jones Road.

Numerous power poles were downed due to non-thunderstorm wind gusts across the county.

Multiple power poles were downed at the intersection of State Route 236 and County Road 500 North due to damaging thunderstorm wind gusts. Police and Fire departments responded. The wind and rain was strong, but no wind speed was reported.

Trees were reported down in and around nearby Indianapolis due to high, non-thunderstorm damaging wind gusts. Also, part of a wall near Union Station peeled off and landed on top of a vehicle in nearby downtown Indianapolis. At least 250 power outages were reported from across the county.

A semi-trailer and a 500 gallon propane tank both overturned in this location due to damaging thunderstorm wind gusts. Also, some structural damage was reported along with trees and power lines down.

Approximately one quarter inch of additional ice accumulation from freezing rain was received. Scattered power outages were also noted.

Duke Energy had nearly 300,000 out of 780,000 customers without power, mostly due to trees and branches falling on power lines. Hendricks Power Cooperative reported two major outages with 915 customers in one outage and about 200 in the other.

Ice accumulated 0.3 to 0.4 inches on trees and power lines. The power was flickering in the Brownsburg area. In addition to the ice accumulation, 0.75 inches of snow accumulated as well.
