Roanoke Rapids Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Frequent wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph resulted in scattered to numerous trees and power lines down across Halifax County, including some on homes. Numerous customers lost power in Halifax County as a result of the tropical storm force winds.
Numerous trees and power lines were reported down across the county, including one tree that fell on a car. In addition, a 46 mile per hour wind gust was measured at the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport.
Trees were reported down on power lines near the intersection of North Carolina Highway 561 and North Carolina Highway 43.
Frequent wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph resulted in scattered trees and power lines down across Halifax County, including some on homes. Numerous customers lost power in Halifax County as a result of the tropical storm force winds.
Episodes
Central North Carolina was under a mid-level ridge of high pressure over the southeastern US, while the stronger mid-level flow was over the Mississippi Valley into the Mid-Atlantic states. While there was no defined surface boundary, isolated/scattered storms developed in the mid to late afternoon across the area. Another round of more widespread showers and storms tracked from south-central Virginia into the central North Carolina Piedmont and Coastal Plain in the mid to late-evening hours. Several of the storms produced downed trees and resultant power outages.
