What Causes Power Outages?
- Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
- Other damage to electric transmission lines (vehicle accidents, trees, and animals can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
- Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

Localized flooding was reported in areas south of Lake Tahoe. Sierra Pacific Power Company reported that at least eight power poles were knocked down, most likely due to the saturated ground. Power lines were also downed when trees fell on them. Around 4,000 people were left without power south of Lake Tahoe. This was the all-time record flood on Trout Creek in South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Valley, flooding U.S. Highway 50. General Creek flooded California Highway 89 at Sugar Pine Point State Park.
