Power Outage in Thibodaux, LA

Law enforcement reports of tree damage and snapped power pole near Lockport.

A few power poles were snapped and others bent over in the marshy area along Louisiana Highway 1 west of Grand Isle. Event time was estimated based on radar.

Trees and power lines were reported blown down along Louisiana Highway 308 near Valentine. The event time was estimated from radar.

A crane was reported blown over and power poles were blown down in Port Fourchon.

Another embedded mesocyclone embedded in the squall line produced a tornado. Tree damage was noted across a field west of Louisiana Highway 20, and due to lack of road access, this was determined to be the start point of the tornado. Several large trees were uprooted along the tree line. Damage was noted as EF-1 in this location. The tornado then moved east-southeast across the field, and crossed Louisiana Highway 20 at the intersection with Appletree Drive. EF-1 damage was noted here, and the tornado was approximately 75 yards wide at this point. A small professional building had large portions of siding ripped off and shingles missing from the roof. Trees were uprooted in varying directions in front of the home, and several power poles were snapped at the base in this location. The tornado then moved east-southeast down Appletree Lane and removed a large portion of the shingles from several homes. Several trees were also uprooted and snapped in this area. High end EF-0 and low end EF-1 damage was noted along Appletree Drive. At the end of Appletree Drive, a detached garage collapsed. The tornado then continued into the woods where a path was noted for several more yards with trees uprooted and snapped. The tornado remained 75 yards wide and maintained EF-1 strength as it moved into the woods. It is unknown if the tornado continued further into the woods due to a lack of access.

A weak tornado touched down in the Mathews area and moved north on an intermittent path to near the intersection of US Highway 90 and Louisiana Highway 308. A few house canopies were damaged along with roof and fascia damage to a few structures. Fencing was knocked down at the high school and a HVAC unit was blown off a small building. Several power lines and power poles were knocked down on US Highway 90. Path length approximately 2 miles, and width 25 yards. EF0 rating with maximum wind 85 mph.

Seven power lines were blown down on State Highway 1 near the Valentine Bridge. Several trees were also reported blown down.

A weak tornado touched down in the Leeville area. Several trailers were overturned and three occupants of the trailers were injured. In addition, power lines were blown down, a couple of recreational boats were overturned in a marina, and seven shrimp boats broke loose from their moorings.

Power lines were knocked down in Chackbay.

A waterspout moved onshore as a multi vortex tornado in Port Fourchon resulting in damage to approximately 12 structures, including several port buildings and three businesses. A few buildings sustained significant damage. Two persons suffered minor injuries. Several hundred vehicles were damage either by flying debris, or with windows blown out. Approximately one mile of power lines were downed along Louisiana Highway 3090 which leads to Port Fourchon.

Thunderstorm winds knocked down 39 telephone poles, several power lines and trees, and a tower. A shrimp boat was overturned and two 80 foot trawlers that were tied up broke loose with one being flipped by the winds. Wind gust of around 100 mph wind gust were recorded at the port police office.
