Strong winds developed behind a cold front during the evening hours of the 15th. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down across the area. However, damage was much more widespread toward the Blue Ridge.
As the remnants of hurricane Katrina moved across middle and west Tennessee, high winds developed over the mountains of North Carolina. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down, with damage being most concentrated in the southwest mountains, and in Avery County of the northern mountains. At least 2 trees fell on and damaged structures.
