Freezing rain developed across the mountains during mid-evening hours of January 31st, and continued into the early morning hours of the 1st. Roads became slick and hazardous, with a few traffic accidents reported. Ice accretion of up to 1/8 inch or so was reported, resulting in a few downed trees and power lines.

Ice accretion of up to 1/8 inch or so was reported, resulting in a few downed trees and power lines. During the early morning hours of February 1st, more significant icing developed, but that part of the event will be included in next month's Storm Data.

April 15, 2007

Strong winds developed behind a cold front during the evening hours of the 15th. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down across the area. However, damage was much more widespread toward the Blue Ridge.

As the remnants of hurricane Katrina moved across middle and west Tennessee, high winds developed over the mountains of North Carolina. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down, with damage being most concentrated in the southwest mountains, and in Avery County of the northern mountains. At least 2 trees fell on and damaged structures.
