Power Outage in Aurora, MO

Multiple trees and powers lines were reported down on Highway 14.

Precipitation started as rain around midday on January 24th before changing over to snow during the late afternoon, with the snow then continuing into the morning of January 25th. Widespread snow amounts between 3 and 4.5 inches fell across the county. A CoCoRaHS report of a measured storm total of 4.5 inches of snow was received from 4 miles WNW of Verona, with a measured 4.0 inches in Aurora. Roads became snow covered and slippery. Around 70 power outages also occurred across the county due to the snow. Some schools had early release on January 24th, with numerous schools closed on January 25th.

A power line was reported down across the road blocking traffic.

This was a continuation of the storm from December 31, 2020. A picture via social media from Mount Vernon showed a measurement of 0.22 inches of radial ice accumulation on a tree branch. This converts to 0.56 inches of flat ice accumulations. Scattered power outages were reported around the county. The freezing rain changed to snow with accumulations up to an inch before the precipitation ended.

Multiple trees, power lines and poles were reported down in town. Numerous power outages were reported as well. Damage was reported to several buildings in town and on the square downtown.

In the Miller fire district a downed line caused a grass small fire. Minor siding and shingle damage was reported to a few homes in Lawrenceburg. No injuries were reported.

A National Weather Service storm survey determined that an EF1 tornado touched down near Highway Z and 39 in Barry County and continued north northeast for approximately 3.4 miles before crossing into Lawrence County ending west of Marionville. Maximum wind speeds were estimated at 90mph, a width 100 yards and total distance 9.4 miles. Numerous outbuildings damaged along the path, trees were uprooted, some power lines were downed, and two mobile homes had portions of their roofs removed. The tornado initially touched down at 6:36 pm in Barry County and ended lifted at 7:01 pm in Lawrence County.

Up to a quarter of an inch of ice accumulated on elevated objects and tree limbs across the county during the ice storm. There were no major travel impacts reported across the county. A few isolated power outages were reported.

Sixty to 85 mph winds caused widespread wind damage across much of Lawrence County. Damage consisted of trees, power poles, structures, and business signs. Winds destroyed a garage along with several outbuildings in Round Grove, and three homes experienced roof and window damage in an area of intense tree damage. A few businesses in Mount Vernon experienced roof and window damage. One home in Miller was destroyed from winds estimated at 85 mph. In Pierce City, most of the city experienced power loss from damaged power lines and poles. Large trees were downed and blocked nearly one half dozen roads, while a roof was completely torn off of an auto shop on Commercial Street.

A National Weather Service storm survey revealed that an EF-0 tornado damaged a hay barn and snapped a few power poles approximately two miles south of Miller.

Sleet and freezing rain accumulations of one quarter to three quarters of an inch were observed across Lawrence County. Ice accumulations resulted in power outages to as many as 2000 residents.

Ice accumulations ranging from one quarter of an inch to three quarters of an inch were observed across all of Lawrence County. Minor tree and power line damage occurred, and was mainly confined to rural areas in the northwest portion of the county.

Two inches of ice accumulation impacted exposed objects across the entire county. Catastrophic tree and power line damage occurred leaving residents without power up to 15 days.

Thunderstorm wind gusts downed a couple of power poles near Aurora.

An isolated severe thunderstorm produce winds of 60mph which damaged several trees and knocked down some power lines.

A National Weather Service storm survey indicated that a strong microburst directly affected the community of Marionville. Several structures sustained roof damage while numerous trees and power lines were downed.

Law enforcement officials observed downed power lines caused from thunderstorm wind gusts within the city of Aurora.

Numerous trees and power lines were blown down near Mount Vernon. Damage was confined to roofs and a street light.

Thunderstorm winds did widespread damage to areas in and around Mt. Vernon. Several businesses sustained heavy damage at the east end of the Mount Vernon business loop. Winds twisted a large sign off it's pedestal and threw it into an awning that covered gasoline pumps. At an adjacent restaurant, a 130 foot tall sign fell as it's support beams broke. The sign struck two parked 18 wheel trucks. A brick wall on the west end of a car/truck wash collapsed rendering the facility useless. In Mount Vernon's old industrial park area, winds blew apart an overhead door on the west side of a building and damaged a small portion of the roof. Numerous business and street signs were blown down across the area.Numerous trees were uprooted and power poles and power lines were also knocked down. One large tree fell destroying a parked pickup truck. Spotters estimated wind gusts of around 75 mph near Mt. Vernon.
