Charlestown Power Outages Caused by Weather

July 1, 2015 - Thunderstorm Wind

A severe thunderstorm caused wind damage along the east side of the Northeast River from the McDaniel Yacht Basin northeast to near Maryland State Route 7. At the McDaniel Yacht Basin, metal siding was peeled from buildings, boats were tossed and a wooden shed was destroyed. Farther to the northeast, trees and poles were knocked down along both Maryland State Routes 272 and 7. Trees were also knocked down between Granview Avenue and Hillcrest Lane, Irishtown Road and Saddler Avenue. Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses lost power in Cecil County.

August 2, 2009 - Thunderstorm Wind

A severe thunderstorm knocked down scores of trees in the Perryville area. A tree fell onto on a townhouse in the Rustic Court Development. A porch was damaged by a downed tree on Maywood Avenue. Some mobile homes were stripped of their skirtings and a couple of homes were stripped of some of their shingles. Some building damage also occurred on Frenchtown Road. Trees were knocked down on six roads and one was closed. Wind damage extended into the Charlestown area. One home was struck by a downed tree. There were a large number of downed trees on Maryland State Route 7. A 150-year-old tree crushed a smoke house. About 10,000 homes and businesses lost power in Cecil and Hartford Counties. Power was restored by 11 p.m. EDT on the 2nd.
