Crawford Power Outages Caused by Weather

Local news media reported numerous trees and power lines blown down across the county. Many customers were without electricity for varying periods of time. A few homes were damaged by falling trees. Radar estimated between 2 and 4 inches of rain fell across the county with 3.33 inches measured in Smithonia. No injuries were reported.
The Oglethorpe County Emergency Manager reported over a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation on trees, power lines and other elevated surfaces due to freezing rain and drizzle. Numerous trees and power lines were downed with sporadic power outages across the county from the evening of the 16th through the morning of the 17th.
A significant winter storm impacted north and portions of central Georgia on Tuesday the 11th and Wednesday the 12th. For areas south of the Atlanta Metropolitan area and into central Georgia, the event began Wednesday morning the 12th. Rain mixed with and changed over to freezing rain through the morning hours, resulting in catastrophic ice accretions of a half to one inch of ice, with localized higher amounts, especially along the Interstate 20 corridor. Thousands of trees were downed and widespread power outages were reported, with some customers without power for days. The event ended as a round of light snow Wednesday evening.
The Oglethorpe County 911 Center reported that two trees and one power line were down east of Crawford. A tree was down on U.S. Highway 78 just east of Georgia Highway 22 and a tree was down on a power line on Elberton Road in Lexington.
