Power Outage in Faribault, MN

A NWS storm survey, plus areal footage of drone and satellite data, concluded that damaging downburst winds, up to 80 mph, occurred from west and north of Wells Lake. Damage was consistent with all the damage directed from southwest to northeast, and related to uprooted trees and power lines.

A NWS storm survey and drone footage concluded that a broad area of downburst and inflow winds occurred south of Northfield, near the intersection of Cannon City Blvd, and 147th Street East, then northeast to the intersection of Hall Ave, and 135th Street East. There was no definite path of damage but more widespread uprooted trees, power lines, and a few outbuildings and silos.

A NWS storm survey, plus areal footage of drone and satellite data, concluded that an EF1 tornado tracked for 5.8 miles, from near the intersection of 150th Street West, and Bagley Ave, or 2.6 miles north of the Faribault airport, northeast to just south of Dundas. ||This tornado tracked mainly through corn and soy bean fields, and occasionally damaging a power pole. One electrical transmission line was blown down near the end of the tornado track which is consistent of 90 mph wind gusts. The largest path width was 440 yards.

There were several reports of strong winds that were associated with an outflow boundary from thunderstorms. These winds produced downed power lines and trees from Northfield, southward to Lonsdale and Morristown.

Several reports of downed trees, power lines and power outages occurred from Morristown, northeast toward the city of Faribault. Some of the spotters measured wind gusts of 59 and 62 mph.

The local emergency manager surveyed an area from �� mile east of Faribault, on Minnesota Highway 60, southeast to approximately near 260th St E and Irwin Ave. The NWS also surveyed this area. Several areas in this 7 mile stretch had trees blown down or snapped off. Some of the trees were 80 feet tall, and snapped off 5 feet above the ground. There were also numerous power lines blown down in this location.

Numerous large trees downed, some taking power line with them. Chimney blown over, then went through roof of building causing structural damage. Rubber roofing blown off roof. Few trees, (some about 2 feet in diameter), blown over onto homes, or vehicles.

Hangars were damaged at the city airport. About 100 trees, some greater than 1 foot in diameter, were downed onto houses, power lines, yards, and cars across town. A gazebo on First Street NE was also destroyed. Many nature paths at River Bend Nature Center were blocked by downed trees.

Tree branches were downed onto power lines north of town.

At least two trees and power lines were downed. One felled tree blocked Second Street Northeast and the top of the tree landed on a vehicle. A flag pole was also knocked down.
