A light glaze of freezing drizzle began in the early morning hours of December 22nd and lasted approximately one hour before transitioning to snow. The CoCoRaHs observer KS-BB-17 in Devon reported 1.1 inches of snowfall. Roads became completely covered and slick, with reduced visibility during the snowfall due to wind gusts upwards of 30 to 37 mph across the county resulting in periodic blowing snow. Utility companies also reported up to 1000 power outages across the county.
Heartland Electric cooperative reported scattered power outages around the county as ice covered limbs fell on power poles and power lines. This was a continuation of the storm from December 31, 2020.

Episodes
A powerful storm system and a dry line produced several rounds of severe thunderstorms with some super cells. There were reports of a couple tornadoes, wind damage, and large hail.
A severe thunderstorm produced damage to trees and power lines in the city of Fort Scott. Flash flooding was also observed within the city.
One storm developed during the evening hours causing damage to a barn along with a couple of outbuildings. A few power poles were blown down while one inch hail was observed.
One of the greatest disasters to ever impact southwest Missouri, including the Springfield metro area, occurred in the form of an ice storm. Several counties, mainly along and north of the interstate 44 corridor, experienced ice accumulations up to two and a half inches. Power outages and catastrophic tree damage were the main impacts resulting from this historic event. However, for southeast Kansas, mainly sleet fell during this time which accumulated up to five inches in some spots. The sleet pack made for hazardous travel for several days while numerous reports of broken bones and other injuries occurred to individuals falling on the slippery sleet pack.
Numerous trees and power lines were blown down countywide, especially hit hard was the city of Fort Scott.
