Snowfall of 1 to 2 inches accumulated with blowing snow and strong wind gusts of 30-40 mph. Rapidly falling temperatures resulted in slick roads and significant travel impacts. Treacherous travel conditions were noted throughout December 23rd, a busy holiday travel day. Wind chills of -25 were observed on the morning of the 23rd. Extreme cold strained the power grid and rolling blackouts were implemented by utility companies.
Lightning knocked down a power pole on West Cherry Street, knocking out power. The cost of damage is unknown.

A storm system moving east through the Gulf states brought wintry precipitation to southern Kentucky December 8-9, 2018. Many locations over southern Kentucky experienced a wintry mix with the predominant precipitation type being freezing rain during the evening of the 8th and continuing into the morning of the 9th. By sunrise many locations saw 0.1-0.25 of ice accumulation on elevated surfaces such as trees and power lines. Some power outages occurred as well (around 2,000-3,000 without power during the peak of the event). Temperatures warmed above freezing by around Noon in southern Kentucky causing most of the ice to melt.
Powerful and slow moving Hurricane Harvey made landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane. After the storm stalled along the coast, producing extreme and unprecedented amounts of rainfall along the Texas and Louisiana coasts that resulted in catastrophic flooding in the Houston metro area. The system then lifted toward the Tennessee and lower Ohio River Valleys on Friday September 1. Heavy rain spread across central Kentucky with amounts ranging from 4 to 6 inches. There were localized amounts of 7 to 8 inches across Warren, Barren, Allen, Simpson, and Logan counties. Many roads became flooded with high water and there were reports of high water rescues performed.
Trees and power lines were downed by thunderstorm winds over much of south central Kentucky. The biggest impact of this holiday storm was at Dale Hollow Lake State Park. Numerous trees were downed. Many tents at the campground were blown over, but the campground had been evacuated about 5 to 10 minutes before the storm arrived.
Thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines over much of central Kentucky. The thunderstorms also produced large hail over the same area.
