Power Outage in Holdenville, OK

Damage was observed near and north of the Davis Correctional facility west of Holdenville. A storage trailer was blown into a house near the intersection of E1330 and N3690 Road. Trees and power poles were also damaged in the area.

Winds caused significant tree damage, knocked out a power pole, and destroyed a shed.

Volunteer fire department reports several large trees down, power lines down, and barn roof removed.

Approximately 15-20 structures sustained damage. Several 60-foot transmission power poles were broken approximately 30 feet above the ground. Several homes also sustained damage from wind blown quarter- to golf ball-size hail. Monetary damage estimates were not available.

A quarter to a half of an inch accumulated on most elevated surfaces, resulting in widespread tree and power pole/line damage.

A band of heavy sleet, accompanied by thunder and lightning at times, moved over Holdenville and Wetumka. At least four inches of sleet accumulated at both locations. Prior to the sleet, about a half of an inch of ice built up on trees and power lines. The ice build-up resulted in over 80 residents without power in Holdenville, Allen, Atwood, and Horntown. Widespread travel problems were also reported.

Numerous power outages were reported due to the ice accumulation in the rural areas of the county.

Damage was sustained to roofs, trees, and power poles on Eastern Hills Road.

An RV was blown over at Lake Holdenville, which is 5 miles southeast of Holdenville. In addition, trees and power poles were downed, and numerous house roofs sustained minor structural damage.

A powerful storm system strengthened over the central Plains during the day on Saturday, drawing rich gulf moisture north into eastern Oklahoma. A surface low pressure developed with a trailing cold front that moved quickly through western Oklahoma, and a dry line extending to the east of the cold front. Isolated severe thunderstorms developed near Hughes county early in the afternoon, with large hail reported in a few locations. Later in the afternoon, supercells over eastern Oklahoma expanded southwest. One supercell developed over far eastern Atoka county, producing a tornado near Daisy and large hail. Damage was reported with the tornado, but there were no injuries. Monetary damages were estimated.
