Liberty Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Through the afternoon on December 15th strong wind caused sustained winds in the 40 to 50 mph range, with frequent gusts well over 60 mph. While most ASOS and AWOS stations recorded gusts around 65 mph, there were several reports of higher winds and damage representative of around 70 mph, such as tree damage and powerlines down. This all preceded strong thunderstorms that also caused strong winds and scattered damage across the area.
Power pole snapped and 1.5 inch tree snapped.
Light to moderate freezing rain formed early morning on New Year's Day. This freezing rain quickly accreted between around a quarter inch before sunrise. Shortly after sunrise the freezing rain switched to light snow, which persisted for the bulk of the remaining day time hours. The snow did not accumulate more than 1 to 3 inches, but on top of the ice accretion created winter storm conditions. Mostly scattered power outages and vehicle accidents were the impacts, but being a holiday, road traffic was likely light.
Isolated downburst within otherwise non-severe storms produced some tree damage, which caused some powerlines to come down in Liberty.
Park and Forest Service reported 65-70 mph winds at Watkins Mill State Park. There were numerous 4 to 12 inch tree limbs broken across the park, and the park lost power.
Episodes
A single wind report came in from a storm in Clay County. The damage was relegated to some trees and power lines in the Liberty area.
A storm produced strong winds near Smithville on June 20. Several tree branches were broken and power lines came down along HWY 92.
A powerful storm system, that originated over Arizona and New Mexico, allowed a substantial amount of Gulf of Mexico moisture, to surge north into the center of the United States. Meanwhile, a frontal boundary had stalled across southern Missouri, allowing this moisture to be lifted into central Missouri, in the form of heavy showers and thunderstorms, March 16 and 17, 2008. Many locations received in excess of one inch of rainfall, with a stripe of 2 to 3 inches of accumulated rainfall, across central Missouri. This led to expansive flooding of area streams and rivers, with numerous state and county roads closed due to high water.

Blueridge, internet, should keep all of us in the co-op updated on status of correcting outages by the areas they are working on so we can have SOME IDEA of when we will get power back on!
Wish the power company would do something about the transformer near where I live. Every time there is a major storm or high winds the transformer sparks and causes an emergency cut off. This is the 8th time this year, 3 within the last 30 days, this has happened. I’ve called the power company about this after the previous times it has happened. I get the “we are currently taking care of these issues and will be getting to your area soon.” My question is when?
