Power Outage in Rotan, TX

About a 1/4 to 1/2 inches of ice accumulation was estimated on trees, power lines and objects. This resulted in power outages near Roby and Rotan. Tree limbs and power lines were down across Fisher County. Schools were closed on October 27, with a 2 hour delay on October 28.

Fisher County Sheriff's office reported 5 power poles blown down on Farm to Market Road 540 and 1 power pole down on State Highway 92.

According to Big Country Electric Cooperative, 65 power poles were downed by the high winds and the weight of the ice on the power lines. High winds estimated from 40 to 50 mph with higher gusts for a prolonged period knocked down these power poles.

Damaging thunderstorm wind gusts peeled a section of a metal roof off of the Baptist Church, uprooted numerous trees and knocked down power lines in Rotan.

Law enforcement reported a power line down on east Lee Street.

This tornado, reported by storm chasers, impacted the east side of Rotan as it crossed State Highway 92 and the nearby golf course. The twister broke several large tree limbs, knocked down power poles and power lines, uprooted a few trees and tore off some roof shingles from a few homes. The tornado lifted near the intersection of South Genevieve Avenue and State Highway 70.

A storm survey indicated that widespread tree limb damage occurred across the eastern half of Rotan. In addition, a few trees and fences were blown down. The wind was estimated at around 70 MPH. A few homes sustained roof damage and a few metal roofs sustained minor structural damage. Thunderstorm winds blew a tree onto a power line in Rotan and several storage tanks were pushed over onto their sides.

This is a continuation of the tornado from Nolan County. This tornado continued to produce tree damage and broke a few power transmission poles as it dissipated near County Road 166.

Power poles were knocked down by strong thunderstorm winds.
