Blizzard conditions began across Loup County by 4 pm CST on April 4, 2009. Snowfall amounts ranged from 5 to 7 inches. Strong north winds of 30 to 50 mph caused significant blowing and drifting snow with reduced visibility to below a quarter mile during the late afternoon and evening hours. Snow drifts up to 4 feet high closed roads and strong wind gusts caused power outages across much of the county. Several newborn calves also died during the storm.
A full tree broke off and fell across power lines.
Ice accumulations of a quarter to half inch caused broken tree branches and snapped power lines. Snowfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches followed.
Strong thunderstorm winds up to 60 knots downed power lines and numerous trees.

Approximately4,576 Nebraska Public Power District customers are without power following Wednesday's unprecedented storm. NPPD UPDATE: 304 CUSTOMERS EXPERIENCING OUTAGES. NPPD officials say the outages includeapproximately 1,609 customers in Humboldt, 1,116 customers in Plattsmouth, 733 customers in Kearney, 354 customers in the Sterling area, and 231 customers in Geneva. Crews are in the process of restoring power to these areas and others across the state.

Tornado touched down and traveled approximately 2 miles to the south southeast. The tornado partially removed a roof off of a well built home. In addition, to the damaged roof, numerous power poles were snapped off along the tornado's path.
