Whitharral Power Outages Caused by Weather

Emergency management in Hockley County reported that a power pole was blown over at the intersection of Mexico Road and US Highway 385 just south of Whitharral.
Local law enforcement officials and the public reported wind gusts to 60 mph across Hockley county. The swath of winds downed several power poles from west of Levelland along Texas Highway 114 to Whitharral. Additionally, a 300 pound diesel fuel tank also was blown over just east of the Hockley and Cochran county line along Texas Highway 114.
Strong thunderstorm wind, which was estimated at around 80 mph by an NWS storm survey, snapped eight power poles.

The towns of Whitharral and Anton were reported to be without power due to the damage. Additionally, a Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet site near Anton measured severe wind gusts from 2348 CST through 0004 CST. A peak wind gust of 61 mph was measured at 2353 CST and again at 0001 CST.
