Bryan Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Heavy wet snow, wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph, and visibilities reduced to less than a quarter of a mile at times created difficult travel. There were a few reports of power outages and wind damage in the region. Storm total snow accumulations up to near 6 inches were reported in far northwest portions of the county. Thundersnow and snowfall rates in excess of 1 inch per hour were also observed.
Periods of freezing rain led to light to moderate ice accretion on elevated surfaces. The combination of this ice accretion and gusty winds to around 35 mph led to some tree and power line damage across the county. Law enforcement reported some roads closed across the county.
Nearby ASOS and AWOS reported gusts of 40 to 50 mph from west and northwest through the early afternoon. These wind gusts resulted in instances of tree damage and subsequent power outages.
Periods of freezing rain with temperatures near freezing accumulated to between 0.10 and 0.20 across the area on New Year's Day. This led to a few reports of tree limbs down and spotty power outages across the region. There were also reports of a few car accidents as roads were slick in spots.
Tree limbs and power lines were reported down from strong winds across the county.
Episodes
Low level temperatures climbed above freezing in a strong overrunning setup. A shallow layer of below freezing surface temperatures existed across portions of far northern Ohio. Reports of one quarter to one half inch of freezing rain was reported. Trees and power lines were damaged from the ice accumulations. Road crews were prepared for the storm and as a result impacts to roads were limited, only resulting in a few accidents and school delays.
