Power Outage in Monroe City, MO

Thunderstorm winds blew down numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines around the county, especially between Monroe City and Paris. Also, several power poles were blown down along Highway W.

Up to a quarter of an inch of ice was reported over western portions of Monroe County with some power lines and tree limbs knocked down due to the wait of the ice.

Thunderstorm winds caused roof and structural damage to a home about 4 miles southwest of Monroe City. There were several trees, tree limbs and power lines blown down in Monroe City.

A wide swath of wind damage extended across Monroe County from Madison through Paris to Monroe City. Numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines were blown down. One large tree was uprooted in Paris and fell onto a house causing moderate damage.

Just south of Monroe City, along U.S. Highway 24, several power poles were snapped and tree damage was observed. Cedar and oak trees were damaged. On the far southwest portions of Monroe City, nine homes sustained roof damage where shingles were removed. Also, several large tree limbs, between three and nine inches in diameter were blown down. One large tree was blown down, crushing a medium sized storage shed. In town, the roof of a retail store was removed and displaced approximately 80 yards to the east northeast. Another nearby business sustained minor roof damage. Also, 3 large storage sheds sustained minor roof damage. Additional tree damage was observed on the east side of Monroe City in a residential area.

A tornado briefly touchdown in southwest Monroe County a mile north of the intersection of Highways M and C on Highway C. Six power poles were snapped at the base of the pole. Width of the damage in this location was 100 yards and damage was rated EF1. Further northeast...the tornado briefly touched down on County Road 840 just east of intersection with County Road 819. A barn was severely damaged. Debris from the barn was tossed to the east about 100 yards. The tornado continued to travel to the northeast...where it briefly touched down again...just south of Highway AA...just west of intersection with County Road 835. Two machine sheds in this location sustained minor to moderate damage. Also...a large barn sustained significant damage where the south part of the barn was removed. Damage width in this area was 70 yards wide. Damage was rated low end EF1. Further to the east...on Highway AA...just west of intersection with County Road 857...numerous large trees were snapped at the base and showed a convergent damage pattern. Width of damage in this area was over 60 yards wide and the damage was only on the north side of Highway AA. Damage in this location was rated low end EF1. The tornado continued to travel to the northeast and briefly touched down one last time just west of Highway 15...two miles south of Paris, Missouri. Three machine sheds sustained significant damage with debris being thrown 300 to 400 yards to the north northwest. Damage was rated EF1 in this location. Overall the path length was 7.45 miles...with a max damage width of 70 yards. The tornado was rated EF1.

An intense bow echo moved through the area knocking down numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines. The doors were blown off of a couple of hangers at Monroe City Regional Airport, damaging several planes.

A tornado briefly touched down in an open field and traveled to the east. It bent one power pole, blew down several large tree limbs and a couple of trees before lifting and dissipating.

A line of severe thunderstorms moved southeast through Monroe county. In Holliday, a trained spotter measured an 80 mph wind gust and had sustained winds of 50 to 60 mph for approximately 10 minutes. Numerous large tree limbs were blown down in the area. Four miles north of Paris, some siding was blown off of a home and a large tree was uprooted. A little further to the south of this location several power lines were blown down as well as another large tree.

A third tornado touched down in Monroe County about three quarters of a mile south of the intersection of County Roads 284 and 215. A metal shed, a pole barn and a house were damaged in this location. The tornado then traveled to the northeast damaging numerous structures, automobiles and trees along County Road 284. One house had the entire corner of the roof and walls removed while a mobile home suffered extensive damage with one half of the structure being completely destroyed as it was flipped over. Further northeast along County Road 239 another farm sustained damage. A machine shed was partially destroyed with missile debris observed in a camper that was parked on the property. The debris field stretched for 100 yards to the northeast. Further along the path another pole barn was destroyed and a large grove of cedar trees...most of which were 1 foot in diameter...were snapped off. Just north of the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 386, more power poles were snapped off and a pole barn sustained minor damage to the siding and roof. The tornado continued to the northeast and crossed into Shelby County near the intersection of County Roads 398 and 307.

Numerous power poles were blown down along Highway A from half a mile south of the intersection of Highway A and County Road 182 to the intersection of Highways A and DD.

Amateur radio storm spotters reported hail up to golfball size in Paris. Strong wind gusts also downed some trees and power lines and damaged the roof of a gas station.

The County Sheriff reported 3/4 inch hail in Madison and power and telephone lines down in the Paris area.
